Choi Seung-yoon’s solo exhibition, “The Core of time: Inquiring About Being” held in July 2026, is the first at Sonoart in six years since the artist’s 2020, 2019, and 2018 exhibitions. The exhibition explores the idea of space as an artwork, presenting individual pieces that together encompass the gallery and reflect on existence within the present moment. Previous Sonoart-curated shows aimed to showcase various aspects of Choi Seung-yoon’s practice. This particular exhibition follows Plastic Blue, Fate in Time, and 101 Personalities.

Each work functions as both a single piece and an independent entity. They are built around long-held ideas that have gained further significance through the accumulation of time. On the canvases, blue pigments blend and movements seem to sweep past before coming to rest at certain points. These patterns of concentrated and dispersed energy invite viewers to follow the flow and notice subtle shifts in color and gesture.

The text suggests that the present moment—the experience of being oneself right now—is central to life. Within this time, the exhibition asks where we stand and how we differ from who we were yesterday. Ultimately, these questions seek to explore the beginning and end of things from within the present moment. Where does it begin, and where does it end?
